Ask Sasquatch!

Nancy Pelosi stepped in it yesterday regarding the Ground Zero Mosque. From Erickson:

Aligning herself with the fringe — a group of people no larger than those who think 9/11 was an inside job and those who think Barack Obama is a foreign born Manchurian candidate — Pelosi said, “There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded.”

Meanwhile, a GOP aide officially won the argument this morning:

One GOP aide told HUMAN EVENTS this morning, “If the Speaker needs help finding the heart of the ‘GOP GZM Conspiracy’ I urge her to ask Sasquatch.  His office is behind the black helicopter hangar, between the unicorn pen and the leprechaun’s pot of gold.”

Game. Set. Match.

It’s kind of fun to see the people who’ve accused the Tea Party movement of being radical fringers join the ranks.

Are Democrats losing their hold over women?

Politico had a great article today on women in the Tea Party movement.

It’s clear that woman have been a driving force in this movement, probably more than ever before on the Right. It can be attributed to a lot of things, not the least of which is, as Darla DeWald said in the Politico piece, is the “mama bear” instinct that kicks in when women feel that their children are at risk. Now that it’s clear that the issues at hand are going to effect every child in this country, the maternal instincts are kicking in. Mothers will fight for their children.

This potentially points to a greater problems for Democrats in upcoming months. Women have largely swung toward the Democratic party for ages. The reasons have been hashed out over and over, but here are some quick bullet points:

  • Women as a whole make less money. Therefore, they are generally in a tougher spot when they are single/divorced. Democratic platforms are all about a safety net for when one is vulnerable.
  • Abortion. The idea of it being outlawed is a sticking point for many women, who feel threatened at the idea of losing that option. In addition, a majority of the modern feminist movement bases their entire existence on trying to fight those evil Republicans that are trying to “police their wombs”. Or something. Which is funny when you consider the health care legislation they were so excited about getting rammed through.
  • The Democratic party has worked to paint themselves as the champions of the downtrodden. Poor people, minorities, and women have long been beholden to the false sense of security that the Democratic party strives to provide. See: first pullet point.

So what’s changing now? The fact that, despite claiming to provide a safety net, Democrats are losing popularity. They have passed legislation that the Left has been fighting to pass for 50 years. They have control of the House, Senate, and White House. They should be riding high… but they’re not. And this is in no small part because of the women that are becoming a loud, fierce voice in this battle.

Nancy Pelosi, as the highest ranking female elected official in the country, has tried to spin nearly every issue as a women’s issue. She did it with climate change. She did it with health care. And let’s face it, in the past, this has been a winner for the Democrats. The ladies, however, aren’t buying it.

Maybe it’s because some of those women who have been chanting “hands off my body” for 40 years finally realized that government involvement means that they’re involved when it’s inconvenient too. Maybe women on the left are realizing that they are more than their uterus, and that there is more to “women’s rights” than abortion. Maybe it’s because those same women want freedom for their daughters. Who knows. The bottom line is that some of the biggest political players on the Right in the past year have been women, and that is likely to continue. Some of the most passionate, effective activists and minds springing up out of this movement have been women. Smart Girl Politics has been on the forefront of the conservative women’s movement, and has provided a unique outlet for women to connect, learn, and mobilize locally. The beauty of all this? Women are drawn to other women in leadership, and the effect has been a groundswell of new female voters, candidates, and activists on the Right.

Nancy Pelosi’s thinly veiled attempt to make this health care legislation a win for women’s rights was laughable. Just a reminder from RedState’s Lori Ziganto of how this bill actually effects women:

Because a quick search of the product classification database shows just how much women, and particularly Moms, will be punitively taxed. Tampons will be taxed; we are hereby punished not just by our monthly visitor, but because of it. Breast pumps will be taxed.  Those of us who are “punished by a baby”,  will now truly be punished monetarily by Congress for choosing (so much for choice!) to breast feed our children. What happened to wanting women to have it all? You are punishing women who work and need to pump to provide the best possible sustenance to their infants. It’s organic; I thought y’all liked that? Or is that just another thing to which you merely pay lip service for political expediency and “cool” points?

Birth control will now be more expensive as well, including diaphragms and condoms. Condoms, hmm, what shall we call that one? The roll-down tax? I suppose they figure who cares if people can’t afford condoms. Who needs personal responsibility? Pesky pregnancies won’t be a problem; abortions will be fully funded! That’s feminism for you. You’ve come a long way, baby! They should probably change that phrase, since they don’t seem to care much for actual babies.

So… what was this about Republicans punishing you for having girly plumbing? We’re not buying it anymore, Nancy. The bottom line is that unless the Dems find a way to stop the bleeding they’re going to pay for it in November. In fact, I’m banking on that very thing.

Pelosi tears up…

These right wing violent extremists are just too terrifying for Princess.

Am I alone in thinking that her tears would be more effective if her face moved?

The Violent Conservative Lie

The Left has been painting protestors as violent, angry, riotous mobs. I think of the the same way as I think of their “Republicans are idiots” meme. It’s a way to discredit the opposition without actually tackling their ideas. This escalated around the time of the Tea Parties, which the racism accusations and the like being perpetuated by MS-NBC, CNN, etc. Not to mention the Janeane Garafolos and Joy Behars of the world.

Are their fringe right wingers who have been violent? Yes. But the majority of us cringe when we see them. I have been to many a Tea Party where I want to tear the signs out of people’s hands and ask them what the heck they’re thinking. However, to classify us as violent because of a few extremists that show up at Tea Parties is false.

Let’s look in the mirror, lefties. Case in point: Van Jones. I’ll let the videos do the talking.

Phil Kerpen summed it up on Fox and Friends this summer:

And he said himself that he was radicalized in jail, that he found communism and anarchism. And then he started a pretty radical, kind of communist, socialist, utopian group that was supposed to end all racism though central planning. And then he decided that the real path the sort of progressive nirvana, was the this green jobs idea.

So how do these people get through? Gibbs claims that the President doesn’t condone Jones’ past statements or actions. WaPo explains:

A White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter, said Jones’s past was not studied as intensively as other advisers because of his relatively low rank.

Jones’s position did not require Senate confirmation, so he avoided the kind of vetting Cabinet officials were subjected to.

Don’t you love the anonymity? Anyway, he didn’t get the same vetting as Cabinet officials. Because he’s a czar. And czars don’t need confirmation. Which is my whole issue with them… unchecked power is bad, kids.

Then we have the commentators. Formerly civil TV host Montel Williams released this gem on his radio broadcast this week:

WILLIAMS (1:30:32): Michelle, slit your wrist.

Go ahead… or, do us all a better thing [sic].

Move that knife up about two feet.

Start right at the collarbone.

(H/T Michelle Malkin)

Nancy Pelosi has been vocal in her active demonization of protesters as well, stating that we’re an angry mob sporting swastikas. Here’s a great article from the Washington Times on Pelosi’s “Visions of Swastikas“.

And remember last week, when a 65 year old man got his finger bitten off by an Obamacare supporter from MoveOn.org?

Damon Root at the Sun Times published an article on the history of violence from the left, concluding with this:

“Have some ugly views cropped up at the recent health-care protests? Sure. But to take that as evidence of a centurylong battle between enlightened liberal reformers and knuckle-dragging laissez-faire racist goons is to believe in a self-serving fairy tale.

It’s time for any pundit who thinks that way to grow up.”

I couldn’t have summed it up better myself, Damon.

Pelosi Goes Nuclear On Insurance Companies

Way to ramp up the rhetoric, Nance. Just in time for a vote!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday ramped up her criticism of insurance companies, accusing them of unethical behavior and working to kill a plan to create a new government-run health plan.

“It’s almost immoral what they are doing,” Pelosi said to reporters, referring to insurance companies. “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure,” she said, adding, “They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening.”

Fine. Insurance companies are good at screwing us over. I get that. But what she’s doing is framing the debate as an insurance company vs. the government situation, when that’s not it at all. In reality, it’s more of a people vs. the insurance companies and the government debate. That does not, however, play into their vision of a utopian government run society, so it’s out, and we’re back to scaring people into thinking government is their only option.

As wrong as what she’s doing is, I’d be lying if I said she wasn’t good at this part of it.

Trust This Face.

Sorry. I know, I choked a little too.

Pelosi’s poll numbers are tanking. Duh. That’s a gimme. She can’t get anything together. Congressional disapproval ratings are at 60%. Individually, her unfavorables are at 48%. Her favorables are lower than *gasp* Sarah Palin’s. Her approval ratings have dropped 12 points in a month.

But Nancy is tough. It doesn’t bother her that people don’t like her, because she’s answering a higher calling. Or something.

Mention of the “trust” question halted the click-clack of Pelosi’s heels against Rotunda marble, and she turned to face the reporter who posed the question. “I don’t know about ‘trust’ — I think I’m trusted,” she said. “I certainly want to be trusted. I’m not particularly concerned if I’m liked.”

Side note: Does this make you laugh as much as it made me laugh? Seriously. Princess Pelosi, making a turn on her heel and keeping a straight face while she said that she thinks people trust her? Even the people that WORK for her acknowledge the damage done by the CIA debacle, while she was lying through her teeth. I have visions of Pelosi sitting with her plastic surgeon, constructing her “sincere” face. And then getting taxed an extra 10% for it.

“Our leadership team is so effective it is driving Republicans to distraction. And they and their allies have decided that I am their target, and they come after me relentlessly — relentlessly. On the left, I have to put forth a bill that’s going to fund the war and the rest, and they’re not happy about that. So none of it is a popularity contest. You just have to be responsible for the job you’re setting out to do.”

Doing the job you’re setting out to do. Like taking care of your constituents? Doesn’t that mean doing what’s best for them, Nancy? If you’re passing horrible legislation that not only tanks the country but pisses off the people that put you in office, how is that doing your job? Unless you don’t actually answer to them.

In addition, there are a LOT of things distracting Republicans right now, Birthers among them, but call me crazy if I don’t consider the Speaker of the House undermining the CIA and recklessly strongarming support for bad legislation a distraction. She is right about one thing: she is a target, but not for the reasons she thinks. It’s because she is on the front lines of what we are trying to change in Washington.

Quote of the Day

In answering a question from a student about how Pelosi was going to get Americans to cut back on their carbon emissions, the leading Democratic lawmaker said it was important to educate children on how to conserve energy and for citizens to build more environmentally friendly homes.

“We have so much room for improvement,” she said. “Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory … of how we are taking responsibility.”

Every. Aspect. Of. Our. Lives. Limited government? What?

I'm Starting To Feel Like A Broken Record…

Nancy Pelosi is a lying liar. From Karl Rove’s Wall Street Journal Op-Ed:

It is clear that after the 9/11 attacks Mrs. Pelosi was briefed on enhanced interrogation techniques and the valuable information they produced. She not only agreed with what was being done, she apparently pressed the CIA to do more.

But when political winds shifted, Mrs. Pelosi seems to have decided to use enhanced interrogation as an issue to attack Republicans. It is disgraceful that Democrats who discovered their outrage years after the fact are now braying for disbarment of the government lawyers who justified EITs and the prosecution of Bush administration officials who authorized them.

Good summary. So how does Princess Pelosi respond? Today’s train wreck of a press conference should be embarrassing. Nancy was a little startled by the fact that the press was actually asking questions, and fumbled around, lapsing into Pelosi speak: “I was not briefed. I was just informed that a briefing had taken place”. No, you were briefed. No one actually believes that you weren’t.

I would say stop lying, but every time you open your mouth, you shoot yourself in the foot, and it makes you even less credible. The first question she took:

Reporter: Regardless of the individual who told you that these techniques were being used, and regardless of the venue in which you learned of this fact, does not the foreknowledge make you complicit in their views?

Pelosi: No, this is a policy that was conceived and implemented by the Bush Administration. They notified Congress that they had legal opinion saying that his was legal but they would let us know if they were planning to use them is what they briefed us on. I suppose you can see that by what Mr. Panetta has sent out that it’s really hard to confirm what did happen, and that the committees of jurisdiction may have to look into that. But that does not make me complicit, no.

Reporter: But you said that Mr. Sheehey, your staff, did tell you…

Pelosi: He informed me that the briefing had taken place. We were not in a place where he could… that was all that he was required to do. We were not in a setting, we weren’t in the – I’m no longer the ranking member of intelligence, he just informed me… and that the letter was sent, that is the proper person to send the letter, the ranking member of the appropriate, of the intelligence committee. Let me read my statement again…

Those followups are killer, aren’t they, Nance? She just dissolves into “No, not me, not responsible… ZOMG BUSH!!!!1!!”. It’s getting old Nancy. Really old. You’re a grown up. Put on your big girl panties. Then she explicitly blames the CIA. From the Times:

“I am saying that the C.I.A. was misleading the Congress and at the same the administration was misleading the Congress on weapons of mass destruction,” Ms. Pelosi said.

She is lying through her teeth, and she was obviously briefed. I’m crossing my fingers that those briefings are released.  This is not a “distraction from Republicans”, this is Pelosi being a liar, and getting called on it. Clearly she’s not used to it, as she gave us the deer in headlights response through the entire conference.

I really hope this is the beginning of the end for Pelosi. My blood pressure can’t handle much more of her.

Nancy Pelosi's A Liar… I'm Stunned.

Remember when I ranted about Pelosi being a liar? My first ever Raisin’ Hale segment was dedicated to The Wicked Witch of Washington herself and how she’s backpedaling like crazy in an attempt to pander to public opinion. No one actually believed that she didn’t know about the torture methods being used in the first place, but EIT released the memo that proves it. Read the first line: Nancy Pelosi was briefed on September 4, 2002.

Either the botox damaged her memory or she’s a flat out liar. While the first is entirely plausible, I believe the second option is much more probable. As I’ve said before, this is nothing but a ploy to distance themselves from an unpopular war. A ploy that is going to fail miserably when the public figures out that Bush didn’t waterboard Congress and force them to order an invasion of Iraq.

I love being right. Especially when Nancy Pelosi is involved.
