Deliver us, Obama!

Creepy vid of the day.

Apparently Playing God Is NOT Above Obama's Pay Grade…

President Obama had a call with Rabbis yesterday. It’s amazing what slips out of his mouth sometimes… From Politico.

A reader points out that President Obama’s call with the rabbis today — as recorded in Rabbi Jack Moline’s and other clerics‘ Twitter feeds — freights health care reform with a great deal of religious meaning, and veers into the blend of policy and faith that outraged liberals in the last administration.

“We are God’s partners in matters of life and death,” Obama said, according to Moline (paging Sarah Palin…), quoting from the Rosh Hashanah prayer that says that in the holiday period, it is decided “who shall live and who shall die.”

The president ended the call by wishing the rabbis “shanah tovah,” or happy new year — in reference to the High Holidays a month from now.

So. From reading the comments, it seems that liberals are under the impression that “shanah tovah” is the phrase we took issue with. Actually… not so much. It’s more that “partnership with God” thing that gets under my skin.

“We are God’s partners in matters of life and death.” REALLY?! This matches the theme of the “Obamessiah” that many Americans can’t seem to shake. Remember the Evan Thomas quote from earlier this summer?

“I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.”

No. He’s not “sort of God”. At all. He is a man. He is our President. He is in no way “partners” with God, let alone “sort of God”. It is not our job to control matters of life and death. I don’t care who you are. And for you lefties who will rail against me for the death penalty argument, I’m not for capital punishment either, so don’t get your panties in a twist. I don’t think it’s ever okay for us to decide when someone lives or dies – that power lies with God and God alone.

Summary: Using a Jewish greeting when speaking with Rabbis? Totally appropriate. Claiming we are “partners with God in matter of life and death”? Not so much. Saying as much make it seem like this sort of thing is up for negotiation. Last time I checked, God was the one in charge of this sort of thing.

Catch a Falling Czar

One of the members of King Obama’s court of unelected and unaccountable jesters has stepped down (possibly in a bid to regain self respect and once more look at her face in the mirror).

“Melissa Hathaway, who completed the Obama administration’s cybersecurity review in April, said in an interview that she was leaving for personal reasons. “It’s time to pass the torch,” she said, adding that she and her colleagues have provided an “initial down payment for what’s needed to start to address cybersecurity.”

She was a Bush-era gal, you see. So even though she did her job, the bulk of King Obama’s court was terribly unkind to her. Larry Summers, the genius “adviser” in charge of the economy, didn’t have much use for Ms. Hathaway.

Not that I can really blame Summers – I have no use for any of the czars. This isn’t pre-communist Russia, after all (though it appears to be pre-communist America), and we shouldn’t have all these unaccountable people running around with multi-billion dollar budgets and answering only to His Highness.

Czar #2 Added To Obama Cabinet

Is this a little creepy to anyone else? First we’ve got Al Gore as the “Energy Czar“. Now we have talks of putting and “Auto Industry Czar” in the cabinet as well? As my friend Rob says, “I would so appoint someone from a failing industry in my cabinet. Especially when they are begging for bailout cash”. And give them the title of a KING. Right. Let’s look at the definition of czar, shall we?

czar: [zahr, tsahr], noun

1. an emporer or king

2. (often intital capital letter)  former leader of Russia

3. an autocratic ruler or leader

If Obama has the authority to appoint czars, what does that make him? Clearly above an “emperor or king”. What a terrible, terrible title for anyone in American government.

America Doesn't Need A "Ruler".

We need someone to “govern”. Or “lead”.

Lots of people are up in arms about this quote from Obama sycophant Valerie Jarrett:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7Nlq80DVpo]

As well we should be over the thought of having a “ruler”. Our country was founded on the principles outlined in the Constitution. Those principles were defined by a people who were fleeing a monarchy, and were taking every precaution to prevent the US from becoming a country “ruled” by anyone.

In order to prevent any one person (or group of people…) from “ruling” the United States, our government is set up with a system of checks and balances. History has shown it to be an effective one: three branches of government, each providing a critical role in balancing legislation, keeping our laws in line with the Constitution. However, when one party commands all branches, that delicate balance can be skewed. Especially when the head of the Executive branch is viewed as a “ruler”. Rulers necessitate followers. Followers do as they’re told.

Now, in addition, and more importantly, I have a hard time swallowing that statement from a Biblical standpoint. Our true leadership is supposed to come from God. I wrote more about this last week:

People need to be accountable. The government is not responsible for your well being – they are there simply to protect us from each other. Period. God gives us a pretty clear warning of what happens when we reject Him as king:

“Now listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” (I Samuel 8:9).

My hope is that Jarrett’s statement was merely a result of her being loose with her words and that this isn’t a harbinger of what this administration is shaping up to be.

National Holidays? Seriously?

Okay I understand the historic nature of the first black president. Really, I do. But shouldn’t a president accomplish something before we start throwing around national holidays? He’s already got one in Kenya.

This just in from Kansas:

“Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation’s 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

“Yes We Can” planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald’s restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama’s honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.

At 7:30 a.m. on Inauguration Day, Obama Cake will be served at the downtown McDonald’s, and a celebration is scheduled for 8 p.m. to midnight Jan. 20 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, 420 S.E. 6th.

Rallies twice a week until inauguration? Obama Cake? What does that even MEAN? I hope this hero worship thing comes down a couple notches real quick.

UPDATE:

Really good point from Ed Morrisey at Hot Air:

Think about the presidents that haven’t received this honor.  Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and purchased the Louisiana Territory, starting the march to the Pacific.  Theodore Roosevelt made America a global power for the first time in our history.  Franklin Roosevelt defeated the Nazis and the Japanese Empire.  Ronald Reagan defeated the Soviet Union.  All of these men have their honor in Presidents Day.

And now the Cult of Obama wants a specific day to honor the object of their adoration, and for what?  Getting elected?  Isn’t that the soft bigotry of low expectations?

Amen, Ed.

Mead: Jesus' Crucifixion was a disappointment.

If you gave a big “Huh?” at that headline, I’m right along wih you. A Fox News article on the global excitement surrounding Obama’s election raises some huge issues for me. One of my biggest problems with Obama was the reaction of his supporters and the media – the man could do no wrong. Now we’re seeing the hero worship on a global level. From the Fox article:

In Kenya, where Obama’s father was born, a national holiday was declared on Thursday. In Indonesia, children danced at the school Obama attended when he was a young boy, embracing him as much for what he represents abroad as for the policies he advocates at home.

If you want a visual, scroll through these. Am I the only one who has an issue with people elevating a man to this level? Seriously, do we really think that this guy can fix every problem, all while paying our mortgages and putting gas in our cars? It’s absurd. He’s a guy. A guy who has been clear on his socialist tendencies.

However, the left has quickly worked to lower expectations – beginning with his victory speech Tuesday night. “The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term,” he says. So, if he flops in the next four years, we should just elect him again? Dig the hole deeper? Right.

Anyway, back to the global victory party.  Walter Russell Mead, the Henry A. Kissinger senior fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations said this:

“Not everybody is going to get what they want, but this is a moment of hope,” said Mead, who added that Obama was sure to fall short of some expectations.

“If you look at Jesus Christ, he walked on water and fed the 5,000 and he ended up getting crucified, so I think it’s not unlikely that President-elect Obama is gonna disappoint some people also.”

Because clearly dying for the salvation of the world was a disappointment. And Obama needs to be placed right alongside Jesus again. I’m gonna go throw something.

"Give Us A KING!"

I have trouble deciphering the importance of politics in the scope of my faith. On one hand, I ultimately answer to God on everything. His word is final, and that’s where I need to gage my action – not by the law of man. However, I also understand that Jesus said he was going to set up leadership for us. His instructions were that we should:

1. Pay our taxes

2. Submit to their leadership, behind that of Him

3. Pray for them. A lot.

I struggle with how involved we should be. What I settled on is this: I should fight for the candidate that BEST supports the truth in the Bible. Jesus is a part of everything – including our government. We will be governed by man, but we are not to value their law above His. To minimize that conflict, it is our responsibility to do what we can to limit the contrasting government.

In short, the more government leaves us alone and makes us accountable to ourselves and God the better.

Sticking with today’s Reagan theme, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government IS the problem”.

Now, with that theme, let’s look at I Samuel.

“So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have” But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king, As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” (I Samuel 8:4-9).

Obama is that king that the left has been begging for. Hear me out.

Clearly, the theme of the left is big government, more regulation, and lots of promises. Their rampant idealism has infiltrated our society and left us lazy and entitled… now we have an entire nation begging for government to provide for them (hence welfare, WIC, and all the other socially liberal government programs that take away individual responsiblity).

This is why a conservative movement is absolutely critical.

In the words of Michelle Malkin, we’re screwed ’08.
