Obama seriously needs a lesson in humility.

Did you know that Obama has restored our position in the world? The polls say so, so it’s true. Everyone loves us!

“No. 1, I think that we’ve restored America’s standing in the world,” Obama said, citing polls about public confidence in the United States around the world.

“We’ve seen very specific areas of cooperation around the nuclear issue,” he said. “At the time of my inauguration, the world community was still divided on what Iran’s intentions were… We mobilized the international community… You now have validators like the International Atomic Energy Agency, you’ve got the P-5 plus one, which includes Russia and China, all saying to Iran, you’re on the wrong side of history here.”

“There is no doubt that, in the same way that on domestic policy our first job was to stabilize the situation and prevent disaster, on the international stage our first job was to stabilize the situation to allow us to move forward,. A lot of our initiatives have not borne fruit… The question is, are we moving in the right direction. There is no doubt we are.”

Well of COURSE they like us, they now feel like they can kick our ass and we’ll have no recourse. How arrogant do you have to be to think that you have the ability to make friends with everyone in the world less than a year? The only think you’ve done is WEAKEN us, and other countries now feel empowered.

Are we moving in the right direction? Obama says he has no doubt that we are.

I wish I had a fraction of that confidence.

I love America.

Even though I live in DC, I hope these things never get old. The minute they do, I will head back to North Carolina.

Will We Be Sleeping?

Last night I went to a Christmas concert in Greensboro, NC. I don’t listen to a lot of Christian music. I do worship music, but I have some… issues with mainstream Christian music. Apparently I just missed the boat on this one, but Casting Crowns did it a while back and it struck a chord with me. I about fell out of my chair. Check it out. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

While You Were Sleeping

Oh little town of Bethlehem
Looks like another silent night
Above your deep and dreamless sleep
A giant star lights up the sky
And while you’re lying in the dark
There shines an everlasting light
For the King has left His throne
And is sleeping in a manger tonight

Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

Oh little town of Jerusalem
Looks like another silent night
The Father gave His only Son
The Way, the Truth, the Life had come
But there was no room for Him in the world He came to save

Jerusalem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
The Savior of the world is dying on your cross today
Jerusalem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we’re sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children

And while we’re lying in the dark
There’s a shout heard ‘cross the eastern sky
For the Bridegroom has returned
And has carried His bride away in the night

America, what will we miss while we are sleeping
Will Jesus come again
And leave us slumbering where we lay

America, will we go down in history
As a nation with no room for its King

Will we be sleeping
Will we be sleeping

United States of America
Looks like another silent night

A Glimmer of Hope

So yesterday I was listening to the radio on the way to work and heard a story that I thought was absolutely incredible. When I tuned in, they were accepting calls from people who had been homeless at one point, and were no longer on the street (how that topic managed to come up, I have no idea).

A woman named Carmen called in to tell her story, which was an incredible one. Years ago, she and her boyfriend were living in a small apartment. They were like a lot of other young couples, barely getting by until their landlord informed them that he had sold the property and they needed to leave. It was January in Boston, and she was pregnant with their first child, and they ended up with nowhere to go. She was too sick with her first pregnancy to work, and they couldn’t afford to move in to a new place. They spent two months homeless – taking turns sleeping on the trains, in parks, etc. And just to clarify, it was winter in Boston. It was not warm.

Eventually, they found a place, got jobs, and she had the baby.

They got married, and she ended up raising seven children. Today, she lives in the Raleigh area and works in social services. What impressed me so much about this story is that they did it all without government support. There was no WIC, food stamps, unemployment, nothing. They simply went out, worked hard, and did what they had to do – including sleeping on trains and in parks in the middle of a Boston winter. My favorite moment was when she explained that when money got tight, and there was $20 left over at the end of the month, she was ecstatic – just grateful that they had everything they needed.

How many people do we really think could accomplish that right now in America? I think we’ve become so programmed to think that we need assistance that we end up selling ourselves short. The great thing about this country is that we CAN do things to change our position in life. No, it may not always be comfortable, but self-sufficiency builds a strong person. The kind of person that makes America strong.

America is so much better than the current status quo. We are so much smarter and stronger than we let on – and it’s time for the government to quit pandering. It breaks my heart to see us fall to the low standards the government has set for us. I don’t believe their intentions were bad – as I’ve stated before, the sentiment behind liberalism is a nice one. Help people.

I just hope that they figure out that bailing people out doesn’t help them before we eliminate every Carmen we have left in our country.
