Gregory Craig

Gregory Craig.  New White House Counsel, and another in the growing list of Clinton advisers added to the Obama camp. Craig, a friend of the Clintons from their law school days, defended Bill Clinton in the impeachment proceedings in 1998. He also represented the father of Elian Gonzalez, the little Cuban boy who found himself in a custody/immigration debacle in 2000 that ended with the boy being returned to Cuba with his father. Recently, Elian made the news again when he joined the communist party, announcing his unfailing support for Castro.

Throughout Obama’s campaign, Craig served as one of Obama’s policy advisors, and stood in as John McCain during Obama’s debate prep.

My favorite part: He’s also the reason that Hinckley, Reagan’s would-be assassin, gets to hang out with his family on weekends.

Mr. Craig defended John Hinckley Jr., who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981, and was credited with crafting Mr. Hinckley’s successful insanity defense.

"Give Us A KING!"

I have trouble deciphering the importance of politics in the scope of my faith. On one hand, I ultimately answer to God on everything. His word is final, and that’s where I need to gage my action – not by the law of man. However, I also understand that Jesus said he was going to set up leadership for us. His instructions were that we should:

1. Pay our taxes

2. Submit to their leadership, behind that of Him

3. Pray for them. A lot.

I struggle with how involved we should be. What I settled on is this: I should fight for the candidate that BEST supports the truth in the Bible. Jesus is a part of everything – including our government. We will be governed by man, but we are not to value their law above His. To minimize that conflict, it is our responsibility to do what we can to limit the contrasting government.

In short, the more government leaves us alone and makes us accountable to ourselves and God the better.

Sticking with today’s Reagan theme, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government IS the problem”.

Now, with that theme, let’s look at I Samuel.

“So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have” But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king, As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” (I Samuel 8:4-9).

Obama is that king that the left has been begging for. Hear me out.

Clearly, the theme of the left is big government, more regulation, and lots of promises. Their rampant idealism has infiltrated our society and left us lazy and entitled… now we have an entire nation begging for government to provide for them (hence welfare, WIC, and all the other socially liberal government programs that take away individual responsiblity).

This is why a conservative movement is absolutely critical. People need to be accountable. The government is not responsible for your well being – they are there simply to protect us from each other. Period. God gives us a pretty clear warning of what happens when we reject Him as king:

“Now listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” (I Samuel 8:9).

In the words of Michelle Malkin, we’re screwed ’08.

What Reagan's Legacy Should Teach Us.

Reagan

I’m really sick of people telling us to stop looking back at Reagan.  Ronald Reagan was the best leader our country has seen.  He was everything that our country stands for.  He bucked large, bureaucratic government.  He united this country in a fundamental way, appealing to the ideals that every American should share. His presidency was about optimism, heart, and “peace through strength”. Taxes were cut. Inflation was curbed. Unemployment was low.

The GOP is dead. Democrats have swung further and further to the left, and the GOP had tried to hang on to elections by meeting them in the middle.  What that gave us was the miserable failure that was Nov. 4, 2008.  We lost the presidency, the House, and Senate, with the Supreme Court soon to follow. What Ronald Reagan showed us was that when you govern by the constitution, everyone benefits.  It’s a completely non-partisan issue. You cannot break the backbone of the country and expect it to stand. Period.

I’m so sick of hearing the word “bi-partisan”. It doesn’t work. We’ve seen over and over that it sets us up for failure, and we’ve ended up with what is sure to be the most liberal leadership our country has ever seen. I think we HAVE to look back to Reagan right now. Learn from history. We learn what not to do, as well as what TO do. His legacy provides a roadmap for what our government should look like, and clearly, the GOP needs to be taking notes.

Conclusion: If the GOP insists on pulling further and further to the left, conservatives need to reevaluate. Kick out the current leadership and start over, or start a new party. Maybe it’s finally the right time. I’ll be profiling some of the up and coming leaders that I would like to see head up a conservative movement here over the next week or so. Stay tuned.

Just a few Reagan quotes to cheer you up.

A people free to choose will always choose peace.”

Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.”

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.”

Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15.
